Founded in 1997 by Ian Hume , the practice was setup to work at a variety of scales and in a range of design disiplines.

Work is motivated by reason and experimentation; projects evolve in response to the brief, budget and context through a process of developing and testing creative strategies rather than the adherence to a particular style or dogma. Working at a variety of scales and in a range of creative endeavors generates a cross pollination of thinking and continually expands our knowledge of construction and manufacturing techniques, materials and new technologies.

We establish strong relationships with our clients, many of which have developed into long standing associations. Each project, regardless of size is addressed with equal rigour and viewed as a unique opportunity requiring a unique response.

 

IAN HUME

BA(hons) Architecture, B(Arch) Manchester University, Furniture and Industrial design London Metropolitan University, Founder Totem Studio.

Ian set up his first partnership in 1993 directly on completing education. Early schemes were small and budgets tight but that proved fertile ground for creative thinking. Incorporated within residential and commercial developments were  a system developed for insitu casting bespoke concrete, and designs for lighting and furniture, all of which developed into stands of the practices' DNA. CHRISTINE MARCHESE

BA(hons) Fine Art, New York University, Sculpture, School of Visual Arts NYU.

Christine is a sculptor working in cast bronze and wood. She has had studios in New York, Cortona (Italy) and London. Christine and Ian have worked together on many projects since the practice was founded in 1997 most notably the Boo! stool and Zipcode lighting

 

OLIVIER DOUILLET

Graduate with Honours from the Ecole National d'Architecture de Grenoble in 2000 and with a master in landscape and urban planning in the University of Aix en Provence

Olivier Douillet gained professional experience working in Madrid and Barcelona on public and international competitions prior moving to London to work at BDP on school and campus projects, before joining Totem in 2006.

 

TONI VAVERDE

Graduate of the EscolaTècnicaSuperior d'Arquitectura"LaSalle" in Barcelona in 2008 and refereed  since 2010 from the COAC.

From 2002 Toni Valverde gained professional experience working in different architectural studios and on his own design projects, and in mid 2014 he joined Totem.
